Custom team jerseys with names and numbers: an ordering guide
Apex Print Studio · · 5 min read

A good team jersey makes a squad look and feel like a team, on the field and in the photos. Whether it's a corporate cricket league, a college volleyball side, a football club or a school sports day, this guide covers how jerseys are printed, how to design them and how to collect names, numbers and sizes without the usual chaos.
How custom jerseys are printed
Sublimation is the standard for sports jerseys. The whole design, including stripes, gradients, sponsor logos, names and numbers, is printed into white polyester fabric, edge to edge. You can't feel the print, the fabric stays breathable, and the colour can't crack or peel. It's ideal for all-over designs, sleeves and collars.
DTF printing is the choice when the jersey is cotton, dark or already coloured, because sublimation only works on white or light polyester. DTF prints names, numbers and full-colour crests on almost any fabric.
Designing your jersey
- Start with two or three team colours. A clear palette looks sharp and makes the team easy to spot.
- Make numbers big and high-contrast. Players, referees and scorers need to read them from across the ground.
- Place the crest on the left chest and keep sponsor logos in consistent spots: across the chest, on the sleeve or under the number on the back.
- Use the whole garment. With sublimation, sleeves, side panels and collars can carry the design too.
- Send logos as vector files (PDF, AI, EPS or SVG) or large PNGs, so crests and sponsor logos stay crisp.
Collecting names, numbers and sizes
The most common delay with jersey orders is missing details. Before you order, make one sheet with a row per player:
- the name exactly as it should be printed (check spelling and capitals);
- the number, with no duplicates;
- the size, ideally checked against a sample or a size chart;
- any extras, such as a captain's mark or a different colour for the goalkeeper.
Add one or two spare jerseys in common sizes for new players. Because there's no minimum order, you can also add single jerseys later that match the first batch.
Caring for your jerseys
- Wash inside out, cold to warm, on a gentle cycle.
- Skip bleach and fabric softener.
- Hang to dry; polyester jerseys dry quickly.
- Don't iron directly on printed areas.

Common questions
How are custom sports jerseys printed?
All-over polyester jerseys are printed by sublimation, which bonds the design into the fabric edge to edge, including sleeves and collars. Names and numbers can be part of the same print. For cotton or dark jerseys, we use DTF.
Can every jersey have a different name and number?
Yes. With sublimation and DTF, every piece can be printed differently at no extra set-up cost. Send us a list of names, numbers and sizes.
Is there a minimum order for team jerseys?
No. You can order a full squad, a few extra players, or a single replacement jersey later.
Will the print crack or peel?
Sublimated prints can't crack or peel, because the ink is inside the polyester fibres rather than on top. DTF prints flex with the fabric and last many washes with the right care.
