Festival T-shirts: a planning guide for Navratri, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali
Apex Print Studio · · 4 min read

Matching T-shirts turn a group into a team. A garba group in coordinated colours, a Dahi Handi pyramid in bright yellow, a Ganpati mandal in the same design, an office in festive tees for the Diwali party: they all look great in photos and make the day feel special. Here's how to plan festival tees without a last-minute rush.
Start early
Festival weeks are the busiest time of year for printers everywhere, because everyone wants their tees at the same time. The simplest way to avoid stress is to start planning a few weeks ahead:
- Fix the design and the wording first, including names, dates and the group or mandal name.
- Collect sizes from everyone (see below) while the design is being finalised.
- Approve the proof and confirm quantities, so printing can start.
When you get in touch, tell us your festival date and we'll be upfront about what's possible.
Navratri
Garba and dandiya groups often want tees that match each other but stand out from the crowd. Popular ideas include a group name across the back, a small emblem on the chest, and names or roles on the sleeve. Nine nights of dancing call for comfortable, breathable fabric. Many groups also choose colours to match the colour of the day, which is easy with DTF because the same design works on every garment colour.
Janmashtami and Dahi Handi
Dahi Handi teams need tees that are bold, visible and tough. Bright colours like yellow and orange stand out in a crowd and on camera, and a team name with numbers on the back helps everyone find each other. Because the day is physical, choose a fabric that moves with you; DTF prints flex with the fabric instead of cracking. A slogan on the front and full-colour Krishna artwork on the back is a classic combination.

Ganesh Chaturthi
Mandal tees often feature detailed, full-colour Ganpati artwork, which is exactly where DTF shines: every shade, highlight and fine line prints as designed, on white, black or saffron. Use the highest-quality version of the artwork you can find, and check it carefully at the proof stage, so devotional imagery is reproduced with care. Adding the mandal name and year makes the tee a keepsake. Many mandals also order matching fabric flags and cloth banners for the pandal and the procession.
Diwali
Diwali is when companies celebrate with their teams and thank their clients. Festive tees for the office party pair well with gifts like printed mugs, bottles, tote bags and cards, personalised with each person's name. For ideas, see our guide to corporate gifting people actually keep.
Design tips for festival tees
- Front and back work as a pair: a short slogan or emblem on the front, and the big artwork, group name or names on the back.
- Keep the main message large. Festival tees are seen from a distance, in crowds and in photos.
- Personalise: individual names or numbers are easy with DTF, because every piece can be printed differently, and people love them.
- Big group, simple design? For 50 or more tees of a one- to four-colour design, screen printing can work out cheaper per piece. We'll tell you which method suits your order.
- Check contrast: a design that looks great on white may need a different colour on yellow or maroon. Your proof will show each combination.
- Send a good file: see how to prepare artwork for DTF.
What to print where
Most festival tees use two or three print positions. Here's how groups usually split the design:
- Full back (up to about 12 × 16 in): the hero artwork, the group or mandal name, and the year. This is the side people see in the crowd.
- Left chest or centre chest: a small emblem, a short greeting like "Happy Janmashtami", or the group logo.
- Sleeve: a name, a role ("Captain", "Govinda") or a small flag or icon.
- Back neck: a tiny tag with the group name or the year, a nice finishing detail.
Not sure how big each part should be? The placement guide shows each position on a tee with its typical size, and your proof will show the exact layout before printing.
Sizes and quantities
The most common problem with group orders isn't the print; it's the sizes. A little organisation saves a lot of back-and-forth:
- Make one shared list with each person's name, size and, if you're personalising, the name or number to print.
- Remember children's sizes for family groups and mandals.
- Order a few spare pieces for latecomers and last-minute additions.
Choosing the fabric
Cotton is comfortable and breathable for long evenings, while polyester sports fabric dries quickly and suits active days like Dahi Handi. DTF prints well on both, as well as on blends, so choose the fabric for comfort and let the print follow.
